Politeness Principles Used by EFL Teachers in Classroom Interaction during Teaching-Learning Process

Politeness is one of the main factors to achieve character education. The teacher should pay attention, show politeness, and consider themselves as part parents. purpose make some middle school teachers recognize how criticize appropriately. This research was carried out identify types politeness principles used by EFL during classroom interaction, andto find effects in interaction teaching-learning process. researcher has chosen English on seventh eighth grade at Lab School UNISMUH Makassar. joined class recorded activities when were teaching. applied descriptive qualitative method analyze data, doing data reduction, display conclusion. theory Geoffrey Leech (2016) about principle, which consists six maxims, namely tact maxim, generosity approbation modesty agreement sympathy maxim. result observation showed that five maxim.Furthermore, results interviews principle could create togetherness between students, build respect for cooperative interactions help students have positive feelings towards lessons, motivate them participate actively also shapes self-development local culture.
